A couple weeks ago the right-click menu in File Explorer on my Win11 Pro
system offered a new compression feature. It would open an app that let
you compress to .tar files, using a variety of compression methods.

Today that option is gone, and it's back to "Compress to ZIP file" only.

Why was it removed? Only MS goobs know.

This is the feature that was on my computer for a short time

That reminds me, I have to check the new work Windows 11 box to make sure
I got rid of the 'more options' crap on the right click menu. Despite
being an Administrator I had to take ownership of the registry key in
order to change it and I'm not sure it took. PITA

Who would have ever thunk when you right clicked on a file you wanted to
copy the damn thing and not jump through a few more hoops? I can
peacefully coexist with Windows but I have to say M$ has done some pretty
stupid things just because they can. It only takes seconds to put the
taskbar icons back on the left where they belong but what idiot moved them
to the center by default?

LibreOffice (and indeed, Microsoft Office) are fine for small-scale jobs.

For REAL documents, though, one needs a REAL document processor, such as
DocBooks or LaTeX.

Having used a lot of Microsoft software, plus that clumsy
bloatware called Acrobat, I have to laff at DFS's misguided claims.
