A man has been charged with the murder of his ex's boyfriend, who he's accused of shooting in Minneapolis at around midnight on Fourth of July.

Ryan Deshawn Taylor, 41, of Minneapolis, hid in bushes near to a building on the 1300 block of Olson Memorial Highway before confronting his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend, William Lamont Hudson, as they walked near her home, according to a criminal complaint.

Taylor was wearing all black and a medical face mask when jumped out of the bushes and ran towards the couple just after midnight.

His ex said she pulled out a phone and threatened to call the police. Taylor then responded: "You're going to call who?" and pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun from his front hoodie pocket, and shot Hudson in the abdomen before fleeing the area.

Responders arrived on the scene to find Hudson unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The ex-girlfriend told police she had been at a Fourth of July barbecue with Taylor, saying they had been in a "casual on and off romantic relationship for about ten years."

Taylor dropped her off after the barbecue, at which point she met up with Hudson.

She began receiving messages from Taylor at 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. asking for cigarettes, and she responded by calling him. She and Hudson then left her apartment and walked around the front of the building, at which point Taylor confronted them.

Taylor was arrested on July 6, with surveillance video showing him returning home wearing the same clothing as his ex-girlfriend described him as wearing at the time of the shooting.

He told police he felt his ex "toyed with him, sometimes having other boyfriends and sometimes not."

He admitted he didn't know what his ex's relationship was with Hudson, and also admitted to shooting Hudson.

Police have not yet recovered the gun used in the killing.

A Kansas City, Missouri man has been sentenced to 51 years in prison for a double killing in Minneapolis last year.

Lavell Jacvon Piggie, 20, was sentenced to 612 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of 2nd-degree murder, having previously been indicted by a grand jury on 1st-degree murder charges.

Piggie fatally shot 23-year-old Malik Travon Carr-Riggins and 30-year-old Case Samuel Ritzman in the Feb. 10, 2022 incident.

In a statement, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty described the slayings as "brazen," adding she's hopeful his sentencing "can help these families move forward."

“Gun violence remains far too common in our communities. Yet again, we see in this case how the prevalence of guns can turn disputes violent, even among those who were apparently friends. As a community, this violence must spur us to action. We will continue to work with law enforcement to aggressively prosecute violence and hold accountable those who are responsible.

“But arrest and prosecution will never be enough. We must address the issues that make violence a viable decision for far too many people. We must seek to prevent violence before another life is lost or another family is shattered."

Piggie shot and killed Carr-Riggins and Ritzman due to a dispute over a "significant quantity" of missing drugs.

The victims were found slumped over inside a four-door sedan that had "jumped the curb and come to a stop in a snowbank" near 2031 Sheridan Ave. N. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators used phone tracking data as well as surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts to tie Piggie to the crime, according to the news release.

The evidence established that the defendant "was seen entering the four-door sedan with the two victims and the group then drove for eight minutes across North Minneapolis."

Surveillance video then tracked a person who was seen exiting the vehicle after the gunshots and fleeing the scene – later identified as Piggie.

A week later, a search of Piggie's home turned up "significant amounts of suspected crack cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl, and various other narcotics," as well as $3,000 cash and .40 caliber live rounds of ammunition, which were the same caliber and make as the ones found at the shooting scene.

Piggie was ultimately arrested on Feb. 22, 2022, when authorities tracked him to Brooklyn Center using phone data, arresting him after a high-speed pursuit.

The man who was shot in the leg allegedly by his girlfriend's ex-partner at a Prior Lake park last week has died.

The Prior Lake Police Department confirmed Monday that the 28-year-old victim shot on Thursday succumbed to his injuries, after the bullet that struck him severed his femoral artery.

The suspected shooter, Tyler Schlotfeldt-Gidney, 28, of Monticello, has now been charged with 2nd-degree murder.

The criminal complaint against Schlotfeldt-Gidney says he contacted his ex-girlfriend via Snapchat out of the blue on Thursday morning and asked her to go to California the next day.

Schlotfeldt-Gidney has a three-year-old daughter with his ex, who was born while he was in prison, and his ex agreed to meet with him at Spring Lake Park to talk about their daughter.

The woman brought along her new boyfriend, who is the father of her three-month-old son, as Schlotfeldt-Gidney had been abusive towards her in the past.

As they arrived at the park, Schlotfeldt-Gidney walked behind her vehicle. The woman says her boyfriend got out of the car, and she then heard gunshots.

Police were told by a witness that the shooter placed a gun in his waistband and left the scene in a Chevy Tahoe. Schlotfeldt-Gidney was arrested the next day.
