Also using the open Nvidia drivers. Haven't tested them with EDO yet,
about to do that now. Wish me luck!

I'm looking forward to reading the news that a major distribution
defaults to those open drivers rather than the proprietary ones.
Either way, this is long overdue from NVIDIA.

It used to be that only Mint had the option for the Nvidia proprietary
drivers. Has that changed now?

Uh, no. Ubuntu had access to NVIDIA proprietary drivers forever, and
some distributions like Sabayon actually shipped with them. PopOS
ships an ISO with NVIDIA being used by default.

Thank you for informing me about that. Do those distros used a "Driver Manager"
of some sort to select between nouveau and the Nvidia binary blob?

BTW, this evening, I've been running Elite Dangerous Odyssey (which uses Vulkan), and
knock-on-wood, so far it has been almost flawless with the open driver.

(Had a weird strobing effect when being deployed from a dropship into a ground
conflict zone, but that could be a game bug -- sometimes EDO lighting can be
a bit funny.)

Same for Ubuntu's base, Debian. Just add the non-free repo to sources.list.

Ubuntu does since the 2006 release, as far as I remember. You can
switch to and from the NVIDIA blob. It's the same with Mint.

I've been waiting for NVIDIA to open-source their driver since 2010 or
so, when I got the first laptop with an NVIDIA chip (before that, it
was mostly AMD). Needless to say, I am not a fan of the blob and the
fact that certain things don't work as they should because the
community doesn't have access to the code. Seeing how well Windows
games run under AMD simply because the driver is open makes me
envious.
