Actually, it was the office store taking the hit by cutting $50 to $100 off the
laptop price. They're the ones who sacrificed by paying for a Windows license.

The sad truth seems to be that everyone, probably including vendors that get
their computers direct from, say, Clevo, ends up paying for Windows. Just a
guess; my searches did not turn up any results that didn't involve a Windows
license.

It might be a lot different with servers purchased by the government from DELL.
Although the access workstations generally run Windows.

But I do recall that there have been "traitor" underpinnings expressed.

For example, there have been times when a COLA poster has gone out to
make some absolutist declaration that all non-Linux users are idiots (or
something similar)...

.... but then it is discovered that members of their own family use
Mac/Windows. Hypocrite alert = Oops.

I vaguely recall Peter Köhlmann was an example of this? And of course
chrisv too. Naturally, there's backpedaling to a more moderate position
which then occurs - - but only after they got caught.

The person who made the first two declarative statements is not the same
as the one who admitted that his family and friends use Windows and
MacOS. Linux users don't have some sort of hive mind which requires them
to all think alike. In fact, that's part of the problem for some of us
who would like some standardization, with Flatpak for example.

Android is the most widely used OS, so maybe that's the basis, but
Windows certainly isn't as prominent as it used to be even among
desktop users.

Dobbs rewrites this, it is invalid precedent. States are
liable for denying needed abortions, e.g. TX.

For example, it doesn’t include “workstations” that combine both server
and client functionality in one platform.

And it doesn’t include “handheld PC gaming”, either.
