A notification appeared yesterday that Google had (automatically) added
some new features to my Android 13 (MIUI14).

None of the five were of any interest (although one of them was to
Google Play Services), and I doubt that I can uninstall them - or
anything else Google has added but hasn't elected to tell me about.
Anyone else see this update, or have a log of what was done?

The same/similar message appeared on my huawei tablet, with asterisks
stating minimum android version required for the new features which
excluded my tablet

You're probably referring to a 'Google Play system update', at least
that's the notification I got on the 11th.

Note the spelling/casing. This is a "system update", distributed via
the Google Play framework. It's not an update to or in the 'Play Store'
*app*.

When tapping the notification, I got a 'Your Android has new features'
page with a '( -> Show me )' button, which lets you step through pages
describing the new 'features'. I note the list at the end, which is:

Edit photos with AI
Add QR & barcode passes
Auto-save Gmail passes
React with effects (for the Messages app)
Stay safe in real time

I don't know of a way to revisit these feature descriptions after
you've closed ('( V Done )') the above mentioned dialog.

Indeed. I'd originally typed "Android 13 (MIUI14) OS"- the "OS"
emphasising that it was a system update, but I'd deleted that before
posting!

Thanks for that info. That's what I'd found, but I'd closed the dialogue
after finding none of the updates of interest, so as you've pointed out
there was no way of getting back that 5-point list.

I have the Muntashirakon App Manager, and tried to find out what apps
had an update yesterday. I found Google Play Services, and with the info
you provided found that the Gmail update date was 11 October. Messages
were updated 2 October, but I'm fairly certain that was a separate
update I did early last week. Nothing I tried to search on (eg "Personal
safety") seemed to match the "Stay safe in real time" update.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to use the app manager to search for
a date. There are far too many apps to just scroll through the whole
list to find anything with yesterday's date.

Hi Jeff,

It's great you're using they Muntashirakon App Manager, as it's the best
there is (I'm sorry Andy Burns had trouble with it at first but now it's
working for him also). I strive to find the best free ad free apps out
there so I'm glad you took me up on my recommendation.

As for the Google Play system update" (aka Project Mainline), I searched
for an app for you that will tell you the version of every module.

The free Skyica App Finder didn't find much when I used a filter of free
with no ads, but when I loosened the filter to allow ads, this popped up.

It has only had 100 or so downloads, so I don't know much about it, but
I'll download it myself to see if it does what you seem to want it to.

Yes, I use it but most of what it does and shows is way above my head!

I downloaded and installed "Mainline Modules Info". At first I thought
it might do what I wanted, but I don't think that it does.

When first opened, it shows the Mainline Modules screen. Some of those
show the "Last update" date. For example, Ad Services TVP shows a last
update of 01/08/2024. If I use the search field to look for 01/08/2024,
it finds that app and several others updated on that date. However, if I
search for 12/10/2024 it finds nothing with that date. However, as noted
above, Google Play Services was updated on that date according to the
App Manager.

Now change to "Dashboard". The second "Mainline Modules Availability"
shown is Google Play services, and the last update is shown as
12/10/2024! Why didn't that appear when I searched for that date?

Perhaps it's of interest that the first app shown under dashboard is
com.google.android.modulemetadata. According to
<https://source.android.com/docs/core/ota/modular-system/metadata>, that
app "The ModuleMetadata module contains metadata about the list of
modules on a given device. The metadata is parsed and cached as soon as
the system server starts." Maybe the metadata includes the latest update
date.

(Unfortunately while trying to tap on the underlined word "Detected" to
see if it did anything I accidently tapped on "Check for update"
(underneath Mainline Module Availability). I couldn't stop it checking
and had to reboot to complete the update! I've now got a lot of
apps/modules with an update date of 14/10/2024).

Let me know if you have any more luck checking the latest update dates.
