For a couple days, every time I turned on my phone, Android 11, xiaomi
....8 pro, there was a badge on the google map icon, but when I went to
the map, there was nothing special about it. Any idea what the badge
meant?

Probably a virtual reward for doing something that google liked, but you
didn't do it all the time. Participation trophy!

What a reward! Makes me open the app each time, look around, google, ask
here. With rewards like this I don't need punishments.
