Verses 5: is the born-again man.

1 John 1:5  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and
declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

A son of God does not walk in darkness or exchange the truth for a lie
(sin), but does the truth because he is in fellowship with His Lord
always, time without end. In Christ Jesus is no darkness at all, and so
"My sons are born of Me. In them is no darkness at all." Chosen.

Verses 6-10 are for those who are called, for those who are not born
again, who are still striving in the vanity of their old man to be
righteous by their own strength through their bibles. Essentially, they
look to their bibles for salvation and the evidence to assure
themselves—which speaks volumes.

1 John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we
lie, and do not the truth:

Sinners walk in darkness (walk in exchanging the truth for a lie), and
so do not the truth. You can't fellowship with God and fellowship with
the world; serve two masters.

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us
from all sin.

Walk with Him (opposite of the rich young ruler), in His light/truth
(takes faith, not leaning on your own understanding of the bible or
whatever), in fellowship with Him, and He covers you from condemnation
(the Messiah). Love covers a multitude of sins. This is what would have
happened to the rich young ruler if he had gone with the Lord.

So, the Lord will cover sinners in the time of their cleansing, their
washing, their chastening, and their disciplining, so that all
righteousness can be fulfilled in them. (2 Tim 3:17). Grace and mercy.

1 John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is
not in us.

However, if the sinner is stubborn and resistant to the truth, he is
choosing to remain in his sin state.

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

However, if the sinner admits His sin, the Lord can continue in His
chastening, in His cleansing (not your own cleansing) until the time
appointed by Him when the work is done—by Him, of course.

1 John 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and
his word is not in us.

But if the sinner continues to belligerently and defiantly refuse to be
corrected and disciplined, then he will remain in his sin (e.g., he
slams the door in the Lord's face), and so the Lord cannot come into him
and transform him, and so cannot abide with him.

The unrepentant (those NOT in abhorrence of what they are, in dust and
ashes) are rejecting the love of the Lord, but that is the choice that
man has, a God-given free will choice.

God is God in all His Being.

Jesus is the everlasting Father, Jesus is God, Jesus is the Lord. John
10:30  I and Father are one. If you can't see that the Lord Jesus is the
everlasting Father you are not born again and can't see the Kingdom of God.
