Would be nice if anyone could read this. USENET can't deal with ANSI graphics
very well. Just post in plain text or ASCII type art that some programs can
create.

To be fair, 'slrn' displayed that extended ASCII fine. It's the ANSI
codes that don't get translated. In your case, that might be a character
issue where your font/character set is missing those characters. Maybe
you're in UTF-8 only and that post was CP437? I'm in CP437 due to
accessing slrn through old terminals and a BBS.

It's posting to UseNet newsgroups where the problem comes in. People
not on a BBS with ANSI available, can't make heads or tails out of what
was posted. It's just ASCII gibberish on screen.
