hit. The sentence imposed was *solely* for the robbery, scooter. If you think

Most prisons are *not* owned and/or operated by private for-profit business.
Most are owned and operated by state governments. That's irrelevant.

Experience shows that if more prisons are built, more prisoners will result. The
biggest lobby for building more prisons is the prison guards union. They lobby
for more prisons to generate more prison guard positions. They also lobby for
more "tough on crime" prosecutors and judges. With more prison cells to fill,
people who are charged with crimes that in the past would have resulted in
probation instead are sentenced to prison terms.

So, in summary, more prisons doesn't cause more people to commit crimes — more
prisons causes more people who *do* commit crimes to be incarcerated.
